Background
Port Stanley magnetic observatory is situated on top of Sapper Hill, 2km south-west of Port Stanley on the Falkland Islands.
The observatory was installed by the British Geological Survey with financial support from a consortium of oil companies and became operational in February 1994.
Port Stanley magnetic observatory is part of the INTERMAGNET network.
